“How does a Muslim deal with trials?”

Shaykh Muhammad Sa’eed Raslaan (hafidhahullaah) comments:

“The fourth step is istiqaama (uprightness and steadfastness) and taqwaa (piety). If a trial of adversity comes, one must return to istiqaama and taqwaa.

As for istiqaama, it is the strongest means to rising in eemaan. Whenever istiqaama spreads among a people, their condition becomes good and they increase in turning toward good. And those who are upon istiqaama, they are the ones whom Allaah, ‘azza wa jal, promised that He would take away their sadness and keep away all fear from them in the dunyaa and the aakhira. Hence, it is understood that if a person does not have istiqaama, sadness will come to him and fear will befall him. Allaah, jallat qudratuh, said: {Indeed, those who say: ‘Our Lord is Allaah (Alone)’ and then are upright and steadfast, the angels will descend upon them (saying): ‘Fear not, nor grieve!}- this is in the dunyaa -{But receive the glad tidings of Paradise which you have been promised!’}.

As for taqwaa, it is one of the keys to happiness, because it places the believer in the ma’eeyah of Allaah, tabaarak wa ta’aala, (i.e. Allaah will be with him) and brings His mercy and provision. He, ta’aala, said: {My Mercy encompasses all things, I shall ordain it for those who have taqwaa and give zakaah and those who believe in Our Ayaat}. Taqwaa is a key to getting out of crises and a bringer of provision, as Allaah, ta’aala, informed: {Whoever has taqwaa (fears Allaah and keeps his duty to Him), He will make for him a way out}- he gets out of the crisis, the hardship, the anxiety, the sadness -{And He will provide for him from where he never could imagine. And whoever puts his trust in Allaah, then He will suffice him}.”
